Preschool Curriculum
In the preschool, the caregivers create an environment where the
young child is surrounded by warmth, tenderness and, most importantly,
love. The value of continuity between home and school is recognized
as crucial for young children. Teachers communicate their philosophies
and practices with parents, and parents share with the school the
needs, concerns and developmental growth of the children. The rhythmical
order of daily, weekly and seasonal activities gives children a
sense of security. The children's need for both movement and rest
determines the arrangement of daily events and activities. Practical
tasks such as cooking and gardening add to the homelike environment
of the preschool. Imagination is fostered through the use of simple,
natural materials such as stones, wood, shells, wool and colored
fabrics. Artistic activities include painting, movement and singing.
The telling of nature stories and fairy tales inspire language skills
and nourish the children's sense of wonder.
The Santa Fe Waldorf School offers a 2-, 3- and 5-day preschool
program for three and four-year-olds, with aftercare available every
