About Santa Fe Waldorf School...
Established in 1983, the Santa Fe Waldorf School has expanded its program from Kindergarten through 3rd grade to Pre-School through 12th grades. The Kindergarten and 1st through 8th grade classes have existed since 1990. The High School opened in 2001 and graduated the first high school class in 2005. The School added a Pre-School program in 2004. In 2006, the School was accredited by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and by the Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement of the North Central Association (NCAA). The School enrolls about 270 students, employs approximately 43 full- and part-time faculty and staff members, and hosts an active Board of Trustees of about 12 members. The 13-acre campus is located in the southeast edge of Santa Fe, on a high desert plateau, surrounded by the 12,000 foot-high peaks of the Jemez and Sangre de Cristo Mountain ranges. The School's seven buildings are nestled amid pinon trees, chamisa bushes, and a labyrinth of small arroyos, an enchanting setting for learning and exploration.
We offer full-time faculty a base salary of $36,500 (with an additional $500 per year of full-time Waldorf teaching experience) and a benefits package that includes full tuition remission, health insurance, dental insurance, support with continuing education and conference attendance, a mentoring program, and a retirement account with TIAA-CREF.
The guiding values of Waldorf education are a life-long love of learning, the cultivation of imaginative and analytical thinking, an appreciation of the fine and practical arts, a sympathetic interest in the world and in the lives of others, and the ability to envision and carry out initiatives to foster health in society and the physical environment. Central to our Preschool and Kindergarten is play-based education that nurtures the children in body, mind and soul. During Elementary School and High School the Waldorf curriculum integrates academic, artistic and practical work in support of the school’s values. At each level the subject matter and activities complement the unfolding development of the child and adolescent. Please see our website for a description of our curriculum at each grade level: www.santafewaldorf.org.
Waldorf pedagogy is inspired by the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), an Austrian philosopher, educator, scientist, and artist. Waldorf schools strive to develop the child’s full human potential so that in adult life they have the self-confidence to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world. The faculty and staff study Waldorf pedagogy to maintain a cohesive school community and to guide the teaching.
Santa Fe is the oldest capital city in the United States. It is home to a number of cultural, healing, and spiritual centers. At Christmas time, the roofs of the traditional adobe homes sparkle at night with farolitos. In the summer, Santa Fe hosts the Santa Fe Opera, Indian Market, Spanish Market, and an International Folk Art Festival. In addition, one can enjoy hiking, skiing, film festivals, the farmers' markets, galleries, museums, and numerous world-class and down-home restaurants. Within the local region of Santa Fe, there are a number of anthroposophically inspired programs: a biodynamic farm, a branch of the Anthroposophical Society, First Class meetings of the School of Spiritual Science, and adult education courses in anthroposophy.
